Widow of slain Masbate mayor faces arrest for libel
MANILA, Philippines — A Manila court has issued a warrant for the arrest of the widow of slain Batuan, Masbate Vice Mayor Charlie Yuson III over a libel suit filed against her by Sandra Cam of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
Lalaine Yuson is facing three counts of libel before the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 49 for accusing Cam of masterminding her husband’s killing.
Judge Daniel Villanueva said the court found probable cause to issue the warrant for Yuson’s arrest and recommended a bail of P30,000.
The vice mayor was gunned down on Oct. 9 last year while having breakfast in Sampaloc, Manila.
He won against Cam’s son, Marco Martin, in the 2016 elections. The National Bureau of Investigation filed on Feb. 21 murder and frustrated murder charges against Cam, her son and several others over the killing.
