MMDA: Brace for heavy traffic on NLEx next week
MANILA, Philippines —Commuters are advised to brace for heavier traffic on the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx), as the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced more road closures in the coming week to give way to construction work on the Skyway Stage 3 project.
MMDA general manager Jojo Garcia said that starting Monday, they would be closing down one lane on Edsa Balintawak (going to NLEx) to allow the Skyway’s private contractors to build a vertical bridge support under the Edsa Bridge.
Three of the northbound lanes toward NLEx and one lane on the southbound side would also be closed for eight nights (between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.) from March 1 to 9.
Two lanes on top of the Edsa Bridge (going to Cubao) would be off-limits to motorists for the construction of an interconnection flat-form tower. Garcia advised light vehicles headed for NLEx and Monumento to take the Balintawak interchange going to Cubao, and use the U-turn slot after Cloverleaf Market.
Motorists coming from Monumento headed for Balintawak should turn right on A. de Jesus Street, then left to C3 toward their destination.
