QC implements ban on single-use plastic in hotels, restaurants
MANILA, Philippines — Quezon City residents are advised to bring reusable utensils and containers as restaurants and hotels in the city are ordered to stop the distribution of disposable cutlery and other items.
In a statement from EcoWaste Coalition, the Quezon City ordinance on the prohibition of single-use plastics, which was approved on Oct. 15, 2019, was being implemented since Feb. 15 this year.
“Pursuant to Quezon City Ordinance No. SP-2876 S-2019, the distribution and use of single-use plastic/disposable materials including cutlery for dine-in purposes in all hotels and restaurants are prohibited in Quezon City,” read the statement.
Under the ordinance, distribution of single-use plastic, styrofoam and disposable materials are banned in restaurants and hotels.
The ordinance also banned hotels from distributing soap, shampoo and other hygiene products that are placed in sachets and single-use containers.
Violators of the ordinance will pay a fine ranging from P1,000 to P5,000. Business found violating the city ordinance will also face revocation of their permit and closure order.
