The first Bangsamoro Museum was inaugurated at the Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex in Cotabato City.

It was created to leave a legacy to future generations and to bring a smooth transition to the new Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

The museum contains textiles woven by Maranao women during the Marawi siege, recordings of the Tausug Kissa chanting of the Bud Dajo massacre, 2,000-year-old burial urns and documents on the peace process between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

Marian Pastor Roces, who conceptualized the museum, said that the institution was built to focus on the stories behind the artifacts, the people of those stories and how they survived.

Feb. 6, 1998

Biak na Bato was declared a historical shrine and tourist attraction by virtue of Republic Act No. 8546, signed by then President Fidel Ramos to honor the revolutionary fighters who died for the country.

The law sought to increase tourism in the site as well as to remind Filipinos of its history and the role it played in the Philippine Revolution.

It is where Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo hid prior to the signing of the Pact of Biak na Bato, which ended hostilities between the Spanish and revolutionary forces.
