5 Coast Guard senior officers eyed to replace Liwag

MANILA, Philippines–Five senior officers of the Philippine Coast Guard are among the top choices being eyed to replace PCG commandant Admiral Ramon Liwag who will be retiring this month.

It was learned that the shortlist will be submitted to Transportation and Communications Secretary Mar Roxas who will make his choice and have this approved by President Aquino III.

The officers being considered to assume the top post in the PCG are Coast Guard vice commandant for operations Rear Admiral Edmund Tan (PMA Class 1980), vice commandant for administration Commodore Lino Dabi, Coast Guard fleet commander Commodore Rodolfo Isorena (PMA Class 1982), Marine Environmental Protection Command chief Commodore Rolando Ricafrente (PMA Class 1981) and Coast Guard National Capital Region-Central Luzon District commander Commodore Luis Tuason Jr. (PMA Class 1983).

Liwag (PMA Class 1979) will celebrate his 56th birthday on January 24, the mandatory retirement age for officers in the armed service.
