Cadiz mayor seeks raps vs festival ‘troublemakers’ behind indecent acts viral on social media

BACOLOD CITY — Cadiz Mayor Salvador Escalante has called on the city legal team to file charges against those who performed indecent acts during the Dingasa Festival in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental on Saturday (Jan. 25).

Photos and videos of three persons dancing around a pole and tree, and exposing their private parts went viral on Facebook and drew the ire of netizens over the weekend.

Escalante said one of the three persons seen dancing around a pole and tree has been identified. He withheld the name of the person but said he was not a resident of Cadiz.

“I am urging netizens on social media to help us identify the two other persons so they can also face sanctions”, he said.

Angry netizens called their acts “vulgar, inappropriate, an eyesore to tourism, and disrespectful to a celebration that is rooted in the adoration of Sr. Santo Niño” or the child Jesus.

Two minors and several others were also seen carrying placards with very indecent messages as shown on photos posted on social media that went viral.

The two minors were apprehended and invited to the Cadiz Police Station.

They were held for investigation, and later released.

A 27-year-old woman, whose photo with the indecent placards went viral, went to Aksyon Radyo Bacolod on Sunday to apologize to the Cadiz City government and those she offended.

The woman said she regretted what she had done and asked her bashers to stop harassing her and her family.

Despite the presence of a few troublemakers, many individuals from around the world enjoyed the Dinagsa Festival, Escalante said.
