Korean national, unidentified man found floating in Manila Bay

MANILA, Philippines — A Korean national and an unidentified man were found floating in Manila Bay in separate discoveries on Wednesday, according to police.

The first fatality was identified as Lee Chung Wook, whose body was found at about 4:28 a.m. along the shore of Roxas Boulevard near Quirino Avenue in Malate.

A report from the Homicide Section of the Manila Police District’s Crime Investigation and Detection Unit said the 62-year-old man was identified though several identification cards found on him.

Initial investigation showed the body was spotted by men aboard a passing motorized boat, who then reported the discovery to a nearby coast guard station.

The body was already bloated and emitting foul odor when found, according to police.

He was turned-over to a funeral home for autopsy.

Meanwhile, an unidentified man aged around 30 to 35 years old was also found floating near the seawall of Block 2, Old Site, Baseco Compound in Port Area at about 1 p.m.

Police described the man as having medium built, brown complexion, and is 5’6” to 5’7” in height. He was also wearing a light brown shirt.

The body was discovered by a fisherman onboard a motor boat, who then relayed the information to the Baseco Police Community Precinct.

There was no sign of physical injury on the man’s body, which has also been turned over for autopsy, according to police.

It was not established if the two incidents are connected.

Investigation is ongoing on both discoveries.
