Alleged cop killer arrested in Valenzuela
MANILA, Philippines — Charges were filed on Tuesday against a car theft suspect who allegedly tried to kill a traffic enforcer and stole a motorcycle last week in Valenzuela City.
Allan Castro, who was also accused of killing a policeman in Navotas City in 2012, was charged with car theft with physical injury, attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and violation of the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
On Jan. 8, he was flagged down by a traffic enforcer in Valenzuela City for driving on a sidewalk in violation of a city ordinance.
He tried to shoot the enforcer, Christian Cuaycong, but his gun jammed. Cuaycong ran to the police for help as Castro escaped by hijacking the motorcycle of Rico Prestosa.
Castro was arrested, however, in Manila on Jan. 9 after he hit a woman with his motorcycle. He tried to get away by claiming he was a policeman but failed to present an ID card, leading to his arrest.
