/ 04:00 AM December 11, 2019

The Month of Overseas Filipinos is observed every December by virtue of Proclamation No. 276 signed on June 21, 1988, by then President Corazon Aquino.

According to the proclamation, it is important to recognize and honor the millions of Filipinos spread across many countries for their continued contribution to the growth of the Philippine economy through their taxes and remittances.

According to the Commission on Filipinos Overseas, there are about 10.3 million Filipinos currently based abroad.—Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
