Tisoy maintains strength; Signal No.1 up in 10 areas
MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Tisoy maintained its strength as it moves closer to eastern Philippines with Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 being raised in 10 provinces, the state weather bureau said Sunday.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) hoisted TCWS No. 1 over Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Camarines Sur, Masbate including Burias and Ticao Island, Samar, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Biliran, Camotes Island and Leyte.
Tisoy is predicted to make landfall in Bicol Region between Monday evening and Tuesday morning, Pagasa said.
On Monday, occasional to frequent heavy rains can be expected over Bicol Region, Samar provinces, and Biliran while moderate to occasionally heavy rains can be expected over Romblon, Marinduque, and Quezon.
On Tuesday, Pagasa said Metro Manila, Bicol Region, CALABARZON, Mindoro provinces, Marinduque, Romblon, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, and Bulacan will have frequent to continuous heavy rains.
Tisoy was last spotted 885 kilometers (km) east of Virac, Catanduanes with maximum sustained winds of up to 150 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 185 kph.
Article continues after this advertisementPagasa said TCWS Signal No. 1 may also be later raised over Southern Quezon, Camarines Norte, Marinduque, Romblon, Northern Cebu including Bantayan Island, Southern Leyte, the northeastern portion of Iloilo, and the northeastern portion of Capiz.
