Typhoon Kammuri almost stationary; amihan affecting Luzon

MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Kammuri was almost stationary on Friday afternoon as the northeast monsoon still affects the Luzon region, the state weather bureau said in its latest bulletin.

Weather specialist Raymond Ordinario said the weather disturbance was last spotted 1,455 kilometers east of Southern Luzon and was packing maximum winds of up to 140 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 170 kph.

Ordinario said the almost stationary Kammuri may enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Saturday evening or Sunday morning, and that once it enters PAR the typhoon will be named Tisoy.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the northeast monsoon or Amihan is still affecting Luzon.

For this, Pagasa said, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley as well as provinces of Aurora and Quezon will experience cloudy skies and scattered rains while Metro Manila and other Luzon areas will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rains.
