SAN ANTONIO, Zambales –– The Philippine Navy has embarked on an amphibious operation training here featuring the newly acquired assault vehicles of the Philippine Marine Corps from South Korea.

Lt. Gen. Ramiro Manuel Rey, head of the Northern Luzon Command (Nolcom), said 350 sailors, 160 marines, and 70 reservists from the Naval Reserve Center Northern Luzon are participating in the four-day exercise that began on Monday.

Rey said the drills focus on the fleet-marine concept of operations to sustain the fleet-marine unit’s competency in planning and execution of amphibious operations.

The exercise would also test the Amphibious Task Group concept and support to Philippine Navy’s Capability Development Plan, he said.

“This will enhance the relationship with the community by showing to the populace their importance as the primary stakeholders of the Armed Forces of the Philippines,” Rey said in a statement.

The drills are part of a unilateral exercise dubbed “Pagsisikap 2019” at Nolcom’s area of responsibility. Joanna Rose Aglibot
