Makati City sole PH finalist in Smart City World Expo Congress

MAKATI CITY — Makati City, represented by Mayor Abby Binay, made it to the top 6 finalists in the Innovative Idea category of the World Smart Cities Awards held Wednesday in Barcelona, Spain.

Makati is the sole Philippine finalist in the Smart City World Expo Congress. Out of 450 applicants, Mayor Abby’s push to use technology to improve city disaster preparedness and communication was recognized and commended for its focus on sustainability and innovation.

Other competing Smart Cities included Bonn, Germany; Barcelona, Spain; Pretoria, South Africa; Dubai, UAE; Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan; and Vadodara, India.
