Winter yellowtail season arrives in Japan

HIMI, Japan — About 200 kanburi winter yellowtail arrived at the Himi fishing port in Himi, Toyama Prefecture, early Wednesday morning, heralding the arrival of the kanburi season. The fish were caught with an anchored offshore net in Toyama Bay.

The Himi fishery cooperative certifies yellowtails weighing more than 6 kilograms as “Himi kanburi.” A selection panel comprising cooperative officials and middlemen issues a declaration of Himi kanburi each year when stable shipments are expected.
