DENR opens info campaign for responsible mining
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) launched Friday a nationwide information campaign to ensure responsible mining in the country.
The #MineResponsibility campaign, led by Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu and DENR Undersecretary for Climate Change and Mining Concerns Lawyer Analiza Rebuelta-Teh, sought to recreate a clearer image of the mining industry through stronger policies.
“Moving forward, our goal is to harness this mineral wealth for progress and development and the key to that is responsible mining,” Cimatu said in a statement.

Meanwhile, MGB Director Atty. Wilfredo G. Moncano emphasized that the information campaign aims to promote an inclusive approach in ensuring the mining industry’s commitment to the protection of people and the environment.
“It is important that the public is informed and involved in the enforcement of mining policies and environmental protection, and that’s what this campaign is really about,” Moncano said.
Article continues after this advertisementThe DENR previously signed Department Administrative Order No. 2018-19 (DAO 2018-19) which restricts mining operations.
Under DAO 2018-19, mining operations cannot be expanded without rehabilitating first the site where they extracted minerals.
