Deferred SK and barangay elections bucked

MANILA, Phlippines — Commission on Elections Commissioner Rowena Guanzon on Tuesday expressed reservations over the decision of both Houses of Congress to again postpone the May 2020 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) polls.

“I hope the intention is not because the local officials want barangay officials to campaign for them and their national candidates in May 2022,” she said.

At the same time, Guanzon assured lawmakers that the poll body was ready to implement the bill postponing the May 2020 elections in the event that it gets signed into law. —Tina G. Santos
