More than 30,000 displaced by Mindanao quakes
MANILA, Philippines — Over 30,000 people remained displaced from their homes nearly a week after two major earthquakes rattled Mindanao.
As of Monday, 4,800 families or 24,000 individuals were taking shelter in 34 evacuation centers in Davao and Soccsksargen regions, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.
There were 1,493 families or 7,645 persons staying outside evacuation centers, like the houses of their relatives, it added.
At least 22 people were killed from the magnitude 6.6 earthquake that jolted Tulunan, Cotabato on Tuesday, and a magnitude 6.5 earthquake hit Tuluan and parts of Mindanao on Thursday.
NDRRMC recorded 424 people injured and 188,533 persons affected from 238 barangays in Davao and Soccsksargen regions. /kga
