Tracking system for parcels, ‘balikbayan’ boxes launched
The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has launched a tracking system that would enable Filipinos to check on the status of parcels and “balikbayan” boxes sent to them by their families and friends abroad.
The BOC launched the Parcel and Balikbayan Box Tracking System (PBTS) as part of the bureau’s drive to promote transparency and ease of doing business.
“A lot of (overseas Filipino workers) are expected to send balikbayan boxes and packages to their loved ones here in the Philippines during this time. The system will aim to lessen instances of scams being perpetrated by unscrupulous individuals. Claimants can verify the status of parcels and packages being processed by customs,” said Assistant Customs Commissioner Vincent Philip Maronilla at the PBTS launch.
“The system can provide updates about the parcel or balikbayan box as it goes through the different stages of customs clearance which also enables the bureau to monitor the efficiency of BOC officials and personnel,” the agency said in a statement.
The PBTS can be accessed through the BOC website www.customs.gov.ph, the agency added.
BOC Commissioner Rey Guerrero reminded the public to be cautious in sending their packages and parcels, and to support legitimate and accredited forwarders to avoid being scammed by fly-by-night operators.
