Animal rights activists push vegan diet in rally

MANILA, Philippines — Animal rights activists trooped to Manila on Friday to push for veganism not only as an act of justice against animal exploitation and abuse, but also to help curb the effects of climate change.

Members of various environmental and animal rights groups clad in black gathered at the Andres Bonifacio Shrine in Manila at noon carrying placards that called attention to veganism as an alternative to meat: “Mahalin ang hayop, maging vegan”; “fight climate change with diet change.”

Veganism, or the practice of abstaining from eating animal products, is widely seen to help curb climate change.
