2 Pasay cops caught extorting money from PUV drivers

/ 04:16 AM October 25, 2019

Two policemen were arrested on Wednesday for extorting money from public utility vehicle drivers at a Pasay City terminal, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said on Thursday.

The arrest of Police Corporals Reynald Pallangeo Macwes and Jimuel Ilagan Bernal, both assigned at Pasay Police Community Precinct 7, came as the Philippine National Police continues to be shaken by scandals involving some of its men.

An unnamed complainant had accused the two policemen of “collecting P100 grease money from all buses and vans” at the different terminals in the Malibay area.

This prompted the PNP Intelligence Group, PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (Imeg) and NCRPO to organize an entrapment.

During the operation which was conducted on Wednesday at the Grand Transport Terminal on Edsa, the suspects received P100 from undercover operatives. They were arrested and placed in the custody of PNP Imeg pending the filing of criminal and administrative cases against them.  — Matthew Reysio-Cruz
