DILG bares guidelines on processed meat

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has released the guidelines on the movement, distribution and sale of processed meat in the country as the majority of local government units continue to ban the products.

The DILG issued the circular on Monday amid cases of African swine fever in Luzon, which prompted 62 of 81 provinces nationwide to ban the entry of live hogs and pork products in their respective areas.

Based on the circular, processed meat products that do not contain pork as raw material and with certification from the Food and Drug Administration must be allowed unrestricted movement and distribution in all provinces.

These include corned beef, beef hotdogs, chicken nuggets, chicken hotdogs and other similar items. —Karl R. Ocampo
