MANILA, Philippines — The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) said on Sunday it would not be able to start partial commercial operation of the LRT 2 from Cubao to Recto on Monday, Oct. 7.

LRTA Administrator Reynaldo Berroya said the administration was not able to complete test runs and safety checks of the telecommunication system because of the “complexity of the problem.”

This came after a fire hit rectifiers between the Anonas and Katipunan Stations on Thursday.

“We cannot compromise the safety of everyone so we need to thoroughly check the integrity and stability of LRT 2 structures and equipment before we resume operations,” Berroya said in a statement.
