Senate honors teachers for World Teachers’ Day

MANILA, Philippines — The Senate on Tuesday honored the hard work and commitment of teachers in the country in celebration of World Teachers’ Day.

Under Senate Resolution 155, teachers were commended for playing “a vital and indispensable role in shaping the minds of the youth, preparing and arming them with the skills and knowledge they need in order to be upstanding members of society.”

“The Senate of the Philippines salutes the teachers and educators of the Philippines and of the world for their unwavering commitment and dedication to his noble profession,” the resolution read.

Further, the upper chamber underscored its commitment to uphold the interest and welfare of teachers in the country.

In his co-sponsorship speech, Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri said that the Senate will work hard to institutionalize pay increase of basic education teachers in the 18th Congress.

Senators Bong Revilla and Joel Villanueva, likewise, recognized the role of teachers in shaping learners, underscoring the need to continue investing in teachers as they will mold the future generations of Filipinos.

October 5 was declared World Teachers’ Day by the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
