DOJ to come up with resolution on case vs 13 Pampanga cops in a month

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Justice (DOJ) is hoping to come up with a resolution within a month on the 2014 grave misconduct case of 13 Pampanga policemen for failing to account confiscated evidence during an illegal drug buy-bust operation in Mexico, Pampanga.

In a Senate probe on Tuesday on the issue of drug-recycling police officers or “ninja cops,” Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said that the case is currently undergoing automatic review, adding that he has already instructed state prosecutors to expedite its resolution.

“All records are with us so I hope within a month’s time, a resolution will be issued by the Department of Justice one way or another,” Guevarra said.

The 13 policemen were earlier ordered relieved over grave misconduct; however, then Philippine National Police (PNP) Central Luzon Chief now Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) chief Major General Amador Corpus ordered their demotion on appeal of the original 2014 decision. /je
