Mass transit not a ‘hunting ground’: Ban of sex offenders from subway proposed in New York
A councilman has introduced a resolution which bars convicted sex offenders from using the subway in New York, United States.
Chaim Deutsch’s motion comes after various crimes were revealed to have taken place in the transit system, as per New York Post last Tuesday, Sept. 24
He likened allowing sex offenders on the subway to letting “pedophiles into schools.”
“Someone who uses mass transit as their personal hunting grounds — victimizing their fellow riders — does not deserve equal access,” Deutsch was quoted as saying.
He took to Twitter last Thursday, Sept. 26, to reiterate his intent for introducing the resolution.

Prior to Deutsch’s motion, a similar bill was proposed by Brooklyn Sen. Diane Sevino in June. Sevino’s bill did not become a law since it did not win the approval from the state Assembly.
“It’s time to take action against these crimes so that innocent subway riders can commute in peace,” Savino said in the report.
Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials also previously asked to be given the authority to stop sex offenders from using the transit system.
New York City Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio also expressed their support for the banning of sex offenders on the subway.
“The definition of insanity would be to allow this conduct to continue unabated,” Cuomo said in an earlier report by New York Post, Sept. 5, “and somehow expect our transit system to improve.” Ryan Arcadio/JB
