Landslide-hit section of highway going to Baguio opens but traffic snail-paced

BAGUIO CITY—A massive landslide forced the closure of two lanes of the Marcos Highway in the town of Tuba, Benguet on Wednesday night, Sept. 25, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

A section, however, was opened around 8 p.m. allowing one lane to be passable.

By 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, motorists were allowed to pass through both lanes that had been hit by the landslide.

Police said the landslide toppled an electric post and sent it hurtling toward a jeepney, injuring three persons.

Motorists suffered from slow moving traffic along the highway as the road was strewn with soil and rocks unleashed by the landslide.

DPWH also reiterated that Kennon Road is still closed to motorists going to Baguio, responding to reports that motorists were trying to use Kennon to avoid getting stuck on traffic on Marcos Highway. Kimberlie Quitasol/tsb
