PDEA, PNP elated over ‘excellent’ satisfaction rating on drug war

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday were elated with the recent survey of the Social Weather Stations (SWS) which showed an “excellent” satisfaction rating among Filipinos to the government’s drug war.

According to PDEA, the high satisfaction rating on the campaign against illegal drugs leaves the agency “more driven to achieve victory over the drug menace.”

“This is a welcome development amid the naysayers against the government’s campaign against illegal drugs coming from domestic and international critics,” PDEA said in a statement.

The survey, conducted from June 22 to 26 and released on September 22, showed that 82 percent of Filipinos are satisfied with the drug war, while 12 percent were dissatisfied and six percent were undecided. This recorded a net satisfaction rating of +70, which is considered “excellent.”

“The latest SWS poll results motivate PDEA, as the country’s lead agency against illegal drugs, to do even better and do more,” the agency said. “PDEA will carry on with its aggressive supply reduction operations, and holistic approaches to prevent people from wanting and taking illegal drugs, while offering interventions to soften the impacts of drug use and save the lives of drug users and surrendering drug pushers.”

According to PDEA, the SWS survey also proves that the community felt the effects of the anti-drug campaign, with the PDEA and PNP earning the trust and support of the public.

For his part, PNP chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde said that the large percentage of Filipinos satisfied with the drug war is a “valid recognition of the efforts of the government to stamp out this social problem.”

“Consistently, for the 3rd consecutive year, since 2017, there is a popular public acknowledgement of the national crusade against illegal drugs,” he said. /je
