Magnitude 4.4 quake hits waters off Surigao del Sur

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.4 quake struck the waters off Cagwait, Surigao del Sur on Saturday afternoon, the Philippine Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The quake was recorded at 1:57 p.m. with its epicenter located 46 kilometers southeast of Cagwait town.

Phivolcs said the quake, of tectonic origin, had a depth of 15 kilometers.

While the Phivolcs said that no damage and aftershocks are expected following the quake, a weaker magnitude 2.3 quake struck the town again less than an hour later at 2:42 p.m.

A magnitude 2.7 quake was also reported in Carrascal town, also in Surigao del Sur at 1:39 p.m. /jpv
