Cargo truck catches fire in Maharlika Highway in Quezon
LUCENA CITY – A cargo truck caught fire while traversing the Maharlika Highway in Atimonan town in Quezon province on Saturday, police said.
Atimonan police reported that a Fuso wing van truck loaded with sacks of carbon and was being driven by Jimmy Madaraso suddenly emitted smoke and its front part burst into flames while negotiating the ascending section of the highway in Barangay (village) Sta. Catalina around 3 p.m.
Local firemen who rushed to the site were able to immediately put out the blaze and allowed motorists to safely pass.
The truck driver and other passengers were not hurt in the fire.
Police said faulty electrical wiring from the head of the truck triggered the blaze.
Some of the truck’s cargo was damaged by the fire. /je
