MANILA, Philippines – No tsunami threat to the country is expected from the 5.3-magnitude earthquake that shook Burdeos in Quezon on Friday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

“None. because the magnitude were small the initial one was 5.3 [magnitude] and the latest recorded was 4.7 [magnitude],” Phivolcs chief Dr. Renato Solidum told INQUIRER.net in a phone interview when asked if tsunami incidents may be expected from the quake.

Solidum explained that the Sept. 13 earthquake’s “threshold” was much below than the expected threshold that would create tsunami threat which is at 6.5 magnitude.
