4 dead in Laguna house fire

SAN PEDRO CITY –– Four people died in a fire that broke out in their home in Cabuyao City in Laguna province early Friday.

An incident report from the city police said the fire happened around 1:45 a.m. in Millwood Subdivision in Barangay Pulo.

The fatalities were identified as Baldomero Gayol, 54, an insurance agent; his wife Jennifer, 47; son Rommel, 27; and granddaughter, Sofia Arabella, 8.

Quoting from the Fire Bureau’s initial investigation, Cabuyao police chief Lt. Col. Zeric Soriano said the victims’ remains were found inside the bathroom on the second floor of their house.

He said it appeared that the family was asleep when the fire broke out. The victims went into the bathroom but they all died of suffocation from the smoke, he added in a phone interview.
