Smuggled meat products seized amid African swine fever scare

LEGAZPI CITY—At least 250 kg of smuggled meat products were seized by the National Meat Inspection Service Bicol and Veterinary Office in this city’s domestic airport on Wednesday (Sept. 4).

Emmanuel Estipona, head of City Veterinary Office, said the shipping company failed to present documents for the assorted raw and processed meat products transported from Cebu around 9:30 a.m.

He said the confiscated products were buried in a pit as a precautionary measure against African swine feber.

“Let’s make this city free of any disease that may affect the swine industry,” he said. Ma. April Mier-Manjares/TSB
