Lacson sees inconsistencies in Faeldon testimony on Sanchez’s GCTA

MANILA, Philippines — Senator Panfilo Lacson on Tuesday chided Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Nicanor Faeldon for showing signs of inconsistencies during the Senate inquiry into the release procedures of convicted rapist and murderer Antonio Sanchez.

Faeldon earlier said to have signed the memorandum order that paved the way for the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) to process the release of the former Calauan mayor.

Faeldon eventually backtracked and claimed Sanchez was not eligible for the good conduct time allowance (GCTA) program.

Lacson said there were “inconsistencies” in the BuCor chief’s answers regarding the case of Sanchez.

During the Senate investigation into the implementation of Republic Act 10592 on GCTA on Tuesday, Lacson asked Faeldon why he still signed the memorandum order on the release of Sanchez despite thinking the former mayor was not entitled to be granted GCTAs.

“But in spite of that, you signed the memo order? To this day, I believe it is your opinion that he is not entitled but, before you signed the document on August 20, you also did not believe that he is entitled to GCTA?” Lacson asked the BuCor chief.

In response, Faeldon said: “I still don’t believe [he is entitled] at the time I signed it.”

“There is some inconsistency here because, if I were in your position, ako naging PNP [Philippine National Police] chief ako, ‘pag hindi ako naniniwala, I do not sign,” Lacson said.

Faeldon later answered: “That is why I ordered to stop the processing of his release.” /jpv
