MANILA, Philippines — “Well, I either cancel it until he attends or i-su-subpoena ko ‘yan [ or I will issue subpoena on Faeldon].”

Senator Richard Gordon said he intends to do these when asked of the Senate’s actions should Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Nicanor Faeldon fails to show up in the Senate inquiry to  review the good conduct time allowance (GCTA) law.

The Senate justice and human rights committee is scheduled on Monday to investigate the implementation of the GCTA law following reports that convicted rapist-murderer and former Calauan, Laguna mayor Antonio Sanchez, is supposedly one of those benefitting from early release because of the GCTA law.

Gordon, chairman of the Senate committee on justice and human rights, noted that he is preparing a subpoena for Faeldon and only needs a signature from Senate President Vicente Sotto III to have it issued.

The senator added that Faeldon should personally appear at Monday’s investigation at the Senate and bring with him all the needed records.

“Um-appear ka [You should appear]. There is no excuse why you should not appear. Pati yung records hindi lang si Faeldon [The records should be presented as well not only Faeldon],” Gordon told AM radio station DWIZ.

Gordon said they requested BuCor for records on the identities of the inmates who were given an early release and the agency’s basis for granting GCTA.

Gordon added that he received information that only Faeldon’s lawyer will be attending the Senate probe on Monday.  /muf
