Motorcycle thief dead after police chase in Cavite

SAN PEDRO CITY –– A man accused of stealing a motorcycle was killed in a shootout with the police in Kawit town in Cavite province on Saturday.

A report from the Calabarzon police said Ferdinand Manahan and a still unidentified male companion stole a motorcycle from a certain Ella Papa.

The suspects allegedly held the victim at gunpoint before fleeing towards Centennial Road in Barangay Tabon 1.

Roaming policemen were alerted to the incident until they spotted the suspects at 1:40 a.m. in the same village.

The police were about to approach the men when they were fired upon, the report said.

Authorities returned fire killing Manahan, as the other suspect escaped during the shootout.

Police recovered two motorcycles, one of which was believed to be the stolen vehicle, and a .38 caliber gun. /lzb
