Man shot in Taguig City

A man who tried to kidnap a 2-year-old girl was shot and wounded by an irate resident in Taguig City who had yet to be identified by the police. Jay-R Villanueva, 29, of Sitio (settlement) Fatima Kawayan, Parañaque City, was reported to be in serious condition after he was shot in the face Wednesday night. This was after he held a knife to a young girl and tried to abduct her on Manalo Street in Upper Bicutan. The victim’s relatives, however, chased him, along with their other neighbors. One of his pursuers later shot Villanueva. “Nobody wants to admit who did it. None of the witnesses and residents want to speak out as of now,” case investigator Police Officer 3 Tom Takut told the Inquirer. “We talked to the suspect’s wife. This guy was apparently ‘high’ on drugs [when he took the girl],” Takut added.—Penelope P. Endozo

‘Delaying tactics’ hit

The three Makati City police officers facing murder charges for the death of a 13-year-old boy failed to submit their counter-affidavit Thursday despite the extension they had been given. “It’s another [one of] their delaying tactics,” said Salvacion Serrano, mother of Christian, who was shot dead by one of the policemen while he was collecting scrap metal in an abandoned building on Kamagong Street in Makati City last month. Makati Police Community Precinct 5 head Chief Inspector Angelo Germinal, Police Officer 3 Robert Riñon and PO1 Nicolas Apostol Jr. said they failed to present their affidavit because they had just hired a new lawyer.—Penelope P.
