Magnitude 4.8 earthquake rocks Northern Samar

MANILA, Philippines – A magnitude 4.8 earthquake rocked Northern Samar early Sunday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs said the earthquake struck at 5:10a.m., with its epicenter traced 21 kilometers northwest of the municipality of Pambujan.

The earthquake was felt at intensity IV in Pambujan, Catarman, Laonag, San Roque and Mondragon.

Intensity III was recorded in  Borongan City, Palapag, Biri, Mapanas, San Jose, Gamay, Lavezares, Las Navas,  San Isidro, Rosario, Victoria, Lope de Vega, Allen, Lapinig, Silvino Lobos in Northern Samar; and in San Policarpio, Eastern Samar.

Phivolcs said no aftershocks and damage to property are expected. /gsg
