One last push for teen living with epilepsy

MANILA, Philippines — As Antoña Reyes’ condition continues to improve, doctors at the Philippine Children’s Medical Center may soon reduce her medication.
The 13-year-old Reyes, a Grade 7 student at the Camarin National High School in Caloocan City, has been having seizures for the past eight years.
She was only 8 months old when she suffered a bad fall. She had her first seizure at age 5.
“The new laboratory results show that she is on her way to recovery and she can take her medicine twice instead of three times a day,” said Reyes’ mother, Luzviminda, who has been raising her single-handedly.
“I am just a barangay health worker who earns P2,000 a month. But we need to spend P2,250 a week for Antoña’s medication (P1,800 for Levetiracetam and P450 for Lamotrigine). I would like to appeal again to your readers. I will forever be grateful for any help they can give my daughter,” Luzviminda added.
