Alleged NPA slain, soldier hurt in Occidental Mindoro clash

LUCENA CITY –– A suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebel was killed and an Army soldier wounded in an encounter in Calintaan town in Occidental Mindoro province Saturday morning.

A report from the military’s Southern Luzon Command here said combined Army soldiers and policemen clashed with an estimated 20 rebels in Sitio Cambiswer in Barangay Poblacion around 9 a.m.

The clash left a still unidentified male communist guerrilla killed while one Corporal Freddie Casinova was slightly wounded.

The government forces recovered one M14 rifle, one M16 rifle with a 40-mm grenade launcher, four mobile phones, assorted medicines, and rebel documents left by the NPA who retreated after a short firefight. (Editor: Leti Z. Boniol)
