Makati to close some roads for Flores de Mayo

MANILA, Philippines — Several roads in Makati City will be closed to vehicular traffic on Friday to give way to the Flores de Mayo procession.

In an advisory on Wednesday, the local government of Makati said it would implement road closures and traffic rerouting plans from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

It said the Flores de Mayo procession route will start from the Makati City Hall Quadrangle to the Globe Circuit Event Ground via Hormiga, Trabajo, Hippodrome, and A.P. Reyes Streets.

The assembly would start at 1 p.m. while the program will start at 4 p.m. The procession will start an hour later.

The traffic rerouting scheme will be as follows:

Vehicles along N. Garcia Street coming from Kalayaan Avenue: (Eastbound heading towards Rockwell area and Guadalupe Nuevo)

  • Along N. Garcia Street, private and public utility vehicles (PUVs) must cross J. P. Rizal Ave. towards Antipolo Street, make a right turn to S. Osmeña Street, then turn left to either E. Zobel Street or P. Burgos Street extension (Makati-Mandaluyong Bridge Service Road), turn right to A. Mabini Street, and turn left to J.P. Rizal Ave to normal route destination.
  • Along N. Garcia Street, PUVs and private vehicles should cross J.P. Rizal Avenue towards Antipolo Street, turn right to S. Osmena Street, turn right to P. Burgos Street Extension (Makati-Mandaluyong Bridge Service Road), then turn left to J. P. Rizal Avenue to normal route destination towards Guadalupe-Edsa.

For vehicles along J.P. Rizal Avenue coming from Rockwell area/Edsa: (Westbound heading towards Makati City Hall and Delpan Street, Manila)

The Makati City government is not expecting traffic congestion along J.P. Rizal Avenue. However, a “stop and go” scheme will be implemented along A.P. Reyes Street to give way to the procession. Traffic cones will be installed to manage traffic in the area.

It also assured that normal traffic flow is expected to resume by 7 p.m. Traffic enforcers will be deployed in affected areas to assist the traffic. (Editor: Eden Estopace)
