IBP to probe ‘Bikoy’ press conference
MANILA, Philippines — The Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) on Monday said it will conduct an investigation on the circumstances surrounding the press conference of Peter Joemel Advincula, the self-confessed “Bikoy” from the controversial video series “Ang Totoong Narcolist.”
IBP Executive Vice President and incoming president Domingo Egon Cayosa said he made the request to conduct the probe, and the IBP Board of Governors agreed to it.
Exactly a week ago, Advincula surfaced at the IBP office in Ortigas seeking legal assistance in filing criminal cases against immediate family and friends of President Rodrigo Duterte.
The IBP was criticized for accommodating Advincula when he was allowed to issue a statement inside the IBP office.
The IBP eventually denied Advincula’s request in accordance with their guidelines.
Cayosa said the probe will focus on “knowing the whole truth and nothing but the truth, observe due process, determine responsibility and accountability, take remedial measures, and note the lessons learned.”
He also assured the public of an impartial and thorough probe on the issue. “Be assured that we will responsibly do our job as elected leaders of the organization and we will safeguard the interests and integrity of IBP,” he added.
Cayosa is set to assume office after the term of incumbent IBP National President Abdiel Dan Elijah Fajardo. (Editor: Julie Espinosa)
