Grass fire hits vacant lot near PNR in Bulacan

CITY OF MALOLOS — A 4-hour grass fire hit at least two hectares of a vacant lot near the Philippine National Railways (PNR) North-South Railway construction site here on Saturday.

The fire that reached the second alarm started at about 5:30 p.m. near a cockpit arena and spread widely to a residential area in Barangay Cofradia.

Fire trucks from this city and in the towns of Guiguinto, Plaridel and Paombong responded to the scene.

Fire officials said no one was hurt and declared fire out at 9:34 p.m.

SFO1 Harold Picao, the fire incident investigator, said his office had yet to establish the cause of the fire, but similar incidents had occurred in the same area during an extremely hot weather condition.
