MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) reminds teachers who will serve on election day to finish the necessary paper works relating to their honoraria to avoid inconvenience.

With only 11 days to go before the midterm polls, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said on Thursday that teachers who will serve as Board of Election Inspectors (BEI) should start working on their documents so they can get their honoraria.

According to Jimenez, the honoraria for teachers has been prepared.

“Okay na, naka-tabi na yung pera, kailangan lang natin masiguro na yung actual payout ay hindi maantala (The money has been set aside. We just make sure that the actual payout will not be delayed),” Jimenez said in a press conference.

“Kaya pinapaalalahanan natin yung mga guro, partikular yung mga nakalista na bilang magseserve as BEI, siguraduhin nila yung paper work nila kompleto,” he added.

(So we are reminding teachers, particularly those who will serve as BEI to ensure that their papers are complete.)

Jimenez said that teachers  should go to the local Comelec offices and work on the details of their payroll and documentation.

He also admitted that there may be a delay for those who are considered alternatives, but they are still encouraged to secure the documents as early as now.

“Makaka-expect tayo ng konting delay sa usapin ng mga alternate, or alternative BEIs, yung mga taong last minute mong ipapasok kasi sila baka wala silang paper work,” Jimenez said.

(We can expect a little day for the alternative BEIs who were listed only lately. Their papers may not be ready yet.)

“So again, kahit yung mga list of alternates, inaanyayahan namin na ngayon palang ay trabahuin na yung kanilang paper works para ma-minimize natin yung waiting time sa pagbayad,” he added.

(But even those who were listed as alternates should also work on their paper work to minimize waiting time for payout.)

Under the law, compensation for the BEI chairman will be P6,000 while BEI members will receive P5,000.

Department of Education (DepEd) supervisors or officials will earn P4,000 while the support staff will receive P2,000.

In addition, teachers and all persons who rendered election service are also entitled to a travel allowance of P1,000 each. /ee
