PDEA says P10-M reward to hasten Acierto’s arrest
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said on Tuesday that the P10-million bounty being offered by the government may hasten the arrest of dismissed Police Colonel Eduardo Acierto.
“The reward may be a welcome development to hasten his arrest. PDEA is also tracking down former Director Ismael Fajardo Jr.,” PDEA spokesperson Derrick Carreon told reporters in a text message.
Fajardo is formerly the deputy chief for administration at PDEA and is being accused along with Acierto of involvement in the smuggling into the country of billions of pesos worth of “shabu” placed inside the magnetic lifters last year.
But “even without the reward, law enforcement agencies are duty-bound to enforce the warrant of arrest,” said Carreon.
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra earlier revealed Malacañang offered P10-million reward for any information that could lead to Acierto’s arrest. /jpv
