MANILA, Philippines — The Luzon grid will be placed on red alert again Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

In a post on its Facebook page, the NGCP said that aside from the red alert, the Luzon grid will also be on yellow alert from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., and 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.

The yellow and red alert statuses were issued due to a low electricity reserve in the grid. The NGCP said that available capacity is currently at 10,707 megawatts, while peak demand is at 10,534 megawatts, leaving a thin reserve of 173 megawatts.

Details of the power situation will be provided by the Department of Energy (DOE) within the day, the NGCP said.

On Wednesday, the red alert and yellow alerts were also issued after power plants generated sufficient power to maintain electric services.
