Suspected gang member nabbed for robbery in Manila

MANILA, Philippines — A suspected member of the “Sigue Sigue Sputnik Gang” was arrested after allegedly robbing a woman of some P33,200 worth of valuables in Sta. Ana, Manila on Tuesday night.

In a follow-up operation, police arrested Bryan Escarlan, 28, as he was about to escape aboard his motorcycle along Tejeron St. in Sta. Ana, Manila.

Prior to the arrest, victim Julie Anne Macalintal, 23, told police that she was robbed by Escarlan and another male suspect while she was aboard a tricycle along Estrada Street, corner Leon Guinto Street in Malate, Manila on April 21.

Macalintal told police that the suspects took her sling bag worth P1,200. The bag contains a tablet worth P30,000, ATM cards, and a pocket WiFi device valued at P2,000.

Under investigation, Escarlan identified his accomplice in the robbery as a certain Jordan Camposano, 23. Camposano, allegedly also a member of the “Sigue Sigue Sputnik Gang,” remains at large.

Escarlan who is now detained at the Malate police station will be facing robbery charges, police said. /muf
