Roxas vows to repeal TRAIN Law if he wins in May polls

CATARMAN, Philippines — Senatorial candidate Mar Roxas on Monday vowed to repeal the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) law if he wins in the May elections.

Speaking before mayors and other local leaders here, Roxas pledged to improve the plight of Filipinos by providing greater business opportunities and livelihood.

He said he also plans to impose stricter rules in hiring Chinese workers in the Philippines and set up an additional P1 million for all barangays every year.

Roxas was in Catarman on Monday as part of his campaign sortie in the Eastern Visayas.

The second “Otso Diretso” bet to have campaigned in the province after Romulo Macalintal, Roxas was welcomed by former second district representative Emil Ong and former Governor Paul Daza.

Roxas thanked the Nortehanons for their overwhelming support in his 2016 presidential bid where he won here in all the 24 towns in the province.

He said he is hoping for the same support in his bid to be elected a senator.

“I’m here again to borrow your trust. I promise to pay your trust through honest, clean, and real service,” Roxas said.

He congratulated the province for having been removed from the list of top 10 poorest provinces in the country.

From being listed on the top 3 poorest provinces in 2015 with 53.8% poverty incidence, Northern Samar leaped to number 16 with 30% poverty index based on the 2018 data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

The PSA also listed Northern Samar as the number three “most improved province.”

Roxas said this progress must be credited solely to the people of Northern Samar. /ee
