5 nabbed in QC for illegal cockfights

MANILA, Philippines – Five individuals were arrested for holding illegal in Novaliches, Quezon City Friday afternoon, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said.

Arrested were Alejandro Ojinal, 41; Victorio Delas Alas,31; Cornelio Maliwat, 26; Norman Dela Cruz, 37 and Rico Macaldo, 39.

A police unit on patrol spotted the suspects along San Julian Street, Barangay Gulod, Novaliches, Quezon City holding an illegal cockfight or “tupada”.

Master Sergeant Emmanuel Alteza, Corporal Kim Justine Roman, Corporal Bryan Pagunuran, Corporal Jefferson Ngo and  Corporal Pat Geronimo arrested the five suspects.

Several of their accomplices managed to flee.

Police recovered two fighting cocks and P2,200 in bets.

Suspects were brought to Quezon City police for proper disposition and filing of appropriate charges. /gsg
