05:00 AM April 17, 2019

By virtue of Proclamation No. 1478, April was declared National Hemophilia Awareness Month and April 17 as National Hemophilia Day. Hemophilia is a bleeding disorder, passed on from mothers, which affects the blood’s ability to clot.

The World Hemophilia Federation estimates that about 10,000 Filipinos have hemophilia.

The proclamation was signed on April 3, 2008, by then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
