5 arrested in Manila drug den buy-bust operation

MANILA, Philippines — Police arrested five persons in a buy-bust operation on a suspected drug den in Tondo, Manila Tuesday morning.

Superintendent Jemar Modequillo, commander of the Manila Police District (MPD) Station 2, identified those captured as Allano Navarro alias “Anong”, 39; his mother RTW vendor Rosita Navarro, 68; tricycle driver Erickson Waperecqua alias “Erick”, 35; Dolores Padayhag, 48; and vegetable vendor Antonio Yap alias “Boy”, 50.

The suspects were nabbed in the Navarro residence at 1282 San Miguel Street in Tondo as police swooped in on their operations at around 9 a.m.

“We have been keeping tabs on Allano Navarro for some time now after receiving reports his involvement in drug activities in the area. We implemented a search warrant this morning and caught them with sachets of suspected “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride) as well as drug paraphernalia,” said Modequillo.

Seized from Navarro and his cohorts 20 sachets of suspected “shabu” and several drug paraphernalia, the police commander added.

He mentioned that although the main subject of their operation, Allano Navarro, was arrested, they were still on the look-out for an alias “Epang” who was also involved in illegal drug trade in Tondo.

Modequillo said that the suspects, now detained at MPD Station 2, would face charges for violation of Section 5 of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
